Its content is critically interpreted and reflected in terms of a broader impact on the development of structural, sound, artistic, aesthetic and functional aspects of organ and organ music. Schweitzer traces two developmental lines of the entire organ culture in the examined work, namely German and French. His basic conclusions include the requirement to build organs in compliance with the basic design principles (machine, choral and sound pyramid), the preference for the slider wind chest and mechanical traction (or with a Barker lever) and adequately differentiated air pressure within each machine. The issues of organ playing, organ literature and their relationship to the type, form and quality of instruments on which it is realized are also reflected here. The aim and intended contribution to scholarship in the submitted article is to capture the essence of Schweitzer’s ideas directly from the primary source, i. e. without distortion which often occurred due to numerous subsequent interpretations, especially within the later reformative Organ Movement. Without this step (which is still lacking in Czech organology), it is not possible to adequately interpret the extensive issues of the above mentioned Organ Movement, which represents a fundamental trend in the construction of the organ of the last century.
